yuck-get away

14th March 2011

I’ve been periodically digging London-based Yuck over the past couple of months + they’re fuzzy pop sound. Kind of like a better version of Pavement played through a Dinosaur Jr. filter…or just a Big Muff. Check out their new video for the singleĀ Get Away, a sun-drenched-live band-road-trippy 4 minutes of fun.

the kills-satellite

21st February 2011

Check out the video for the recent The Kills single Satellite. Directed by Sophie Muller.

A music video that isn’t overflowing with 80′s kitsch? In 2011? Imagine that. Just a slick visual montage from the British coast that plays well to the soundtrack-y vibe of the song. And the track? Sounds like a Specials b-side on Robitussin played in a dirty garage. I love it.

For my money, what little of it there is, Yelawolf is one of the best MC’s on the come up, in the ranks with Freddie Gibbs + Pill. He’s from outerspace like early OutKast (discovered by the same dude that brought the ATLiens to the game), completely sincere about what he’s doing (see this Nardwuar interview) and most importantly, spits hot fire. Check out this short behind the scenes clip the folks over at Yourstru.ly released yesterday, especially for the piano + vocals bare bones version of Pop the Trunk.

NIKLAUS TROXLER

29th September 2010

niklaustroxler-hf1

The jazz posters of Swiss graphic designer Niklaus Troxler are some of the best we’ve ever seen. There’s no one clearly defined style here but plenty of treats for the eyes for sure. Love his use of type, too.
