cee-lo green – fuck you
Enough said!
freddie gibbs ‘born 2 roll’
A behind the scenes look at Gary, Indiana’s Freddie Gibbs, for my money, the best up + comer in hip hop right now. Pay attention.

video: mark ronson + the business intl-bang bang bang

Say what you will about Mark Ronson but the dude never misses a beat (dumb pun intended). His new video for “Bang Bang Bang” featuring Q-Tip + MNDR is no exception. A visual mashup of Japanese TV + 80’s kitsch, cheeseball glam makes for a sweet video. Watch the video after the jump!
jeremy jansen

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of The Constantines, I mean, this site is named after a song on their most recent album. So I was excited to stumble on photographer Jeremy Jansen who recently completed a photo project with the band entitled On the Road: The Constantines. The smart collection of photographs were taken on tour with the band between 2008 + 2010, when the Constantines celebrated their 10 year anniversary. Subtler + a little more personal than most music photography, Jeremy’s take on life with the band is totally captivating.
dj premier-malcolm mclaren tribute mixtape

Love him or hate him, it’s undeniable that the late Malcolm McLaren had a huge impact on music as we currently know it. After his passing last week, a number of well known faces came out of the woodwork to praise McLaren’s work with groups like the NY Dolls, Sex Pistols, Bow Wow Wow + Afrika Bambaataa. One seemingly unlikely fan was DJ Premier, who does an impressive job connecting dots between the punk pioneer + hip hop in the 80’s with a new mixtape tribute to McLaren. You can snag the full tape on Primo’s blog.
to have & to hold
To Have & To Hold is a new film that explores the visual, cultural + spiritual importance of playing, collecting + owning vinyl. In the era of the WackBook DJ, movies like this seem increasingly necessary to keep vinyl from becoming more than an artifact. You’ll find interviews with legendary collectors like Bobbito Garcia, ?uestlove, Chuck D. + Bruce Ludvall, the owner of Bluenote. Bonus: sneaking a peek at their ABSURD record collections. BUY VINYL!
Sculpture
An interesting music video by London’s Sculpture. The group uses Frankenstein’ed tape equipment + repurposed decorated vinyl to create the music + visual…um, I’m not entirely sure what to call it. Stop-motion-flip-booky-record-spinning visual effects? Sure, that’ll work. Just watch it; it’s pretty cool.
unkle x black angels-natural selection
If you haven’t heard yet, UNKLE will be releasing a new album, entitled Where Did the Night Fall on May 10th. Late last week they let out a single for the album: a long, lazy romp over a mid-tempo drum beat featuring the Black Angels. And it’s good. Really good. Not since “Rabbit In Your Headlights” has UNKLE produced a collabo of this caliber. If this is any indication as to how the rest of the album will be, I’m pre-ordering mine yesterday.

Mos Def-The Tournament (unreleased)
OK, so this isn’t exactly breaking news but I just came across a new unreleased Mos Def joint. The Tournament is a nasty track that fell to the cutting room floor during recording of The Ecstatic. Sadat X used that same Godfather sample back on Experience and Education + I’ve loved it ever since. Mighty Mos takes it for a nice spin.
