LAST ONE!!!

It’s been a year of awesome wallpapers (a year?!?) and who better to design our last wallpaper for December than a man that knows what cold really is all about – Milwaukee’s finest, Brett Stenson. Brett chose an unexpected theme for month 12, creating an Alfred E. Neuman-esque character that warrants instant nostalgia, laid over the words “SICK DAYS.”

When the mercury drops, what’s really better than a sick day? It used to be worth a fever to stay at home eating soup + watching Ren + Stimpy. And let’s not forget sick days, which are much different than sick days. Sick days meant sneaking out, causing trouble + maybe sharing a 40 oz with friends in an alley, just sayin’.

So, if work’s getting you down, school’s a drag, or you’re just a lazy sack, let this sucker be a reminder that it’s amazing to call in sick once in a while. Go take some pictures, build a table, learn kung fu, sneak into a hotel pool or just eat some soup + bust out the Ren + Stimpy DVD. Happy December!

November. The month of my birth (national holiday), true fall + for us Americanos, Thanksgiving. Our friend, designer Bijan Berahimi, who we recently blogged about, captured all the goodness of November with this wallpaper. Cos what’s it really about? It’s about food. Feasting with friends + family. And even though the piece is a cool blue, it gets across all the warmth we associate with this time of year.

To make this month’s wallpaper, Bijan had a photo shoot with seasonal vegetables + even grabbed some items from around the house to tie the whole thing together. Eat, drink, love + be well.

This month’s wallpaper was designed by old HF friend Tim Green, aka Destroywerk. Tim’s collage is always a little dark + a lot moody, a perfect fit for October. The fiery color palette lends itself well to the month that’s responsible for Halloween, the changing of colors + frost. Stay warm.

Remember Dan Judge? Creator of band posters for the widest variety of bands + all around talented Philly resident?

Dan’s aced September to the absolute fullest. The weather’s nice but summer’s over. There are new beginnings but summer’s over. The season’s changing but…well, summer’s over. This is a month met with excitement + wistfulness, often at the exact same time. Mr. Judge has illustrated that idea perfectly, tying his wallpaper up with friendship + romance, leaving + the changing colors. I know September’s a big month for me this year; I’m getting married in a few weeks. And I’m sure it is for a lot of you too as you head back to school, back to reality or just begin the grieving process for trips to the beach. On the bright side? Jackets, apples + red leaves. Bittersweet shit.

AUGUST. The end of summer. Here it is, everybody. This month is brought to you by collage artist, designer + friend o’mine, Mr. Able Parris. Able took a unique route to this edition, creating the big G as a cyanotype ( don’t sweat it if you have to click the link, I didn’t know what it was either). The coupling of traditional “old” media with the new is a trademark of Able’s + those of you who were fans of his recently retired monthly wallpapers surely won’t be let down.

Choosing blue as the dominating dimension seems somehow fitting too. August isn’t a cool month for most of us, sure, but the descent into fall can’t be thought of as anything but. Conversely, if you’re hot as shit this August, sweltering in your office with no fans + sticking to your chair (hi), maybe this wallpaper will cool you down for a minute or two.

Bonus: August is the first month with an iPad wallpaper available. Bonanza.

God damn, I couldn’t have asked for a bettery July wallpaper. Jay Byrnes, who you may remember from our 4th is King giveaway, really came through on this one, dropping fireworks, lemonade, a pinwheel + a SUPER SOAKER. Not to mention, the sunniest color palette ever + that awesome ribboned type in the upper right.

No one hates summer + this edition of Year One is appropriately celebratory. So, celebrate!

It’s definitely summer now. OK, June 21st is officially the first day of summer but I don’t care, it’s summer, man. Chris Thornley, one of my favorite designers who you may remember from this earlier post has dropped this sunshiny wallpaper bomb on us + I love it. If last month’s wallpaper was a personal peek into an artists month, Chris has created a wallpaper that explores the more universal meaning of the season. Riding your bike through a cornucopia of color? YES PLEASE. Throw this sucker on your machine or your iPhone + keep that Memorial Day weekend momentum going. BBQ’s, swimming + beer FOREVER.

OK, in my book May represents the official start of the summer. Jumping off of tall things into water, cold beer on hot days, hanging out on the porch with your friends, all of it. Posting this wallpaper by Portland, Maine’s talented Christopher David Ryan means the days are just going to get exponentially better (+ longer) from here. Mr. Ryan, you are the bearer of great news.

For his edition, Chris strayed a bit from what you’d expect from May + instead of relying on the expected themes of a new season, he looked at the work he’d been doing in recent months + explored some of the visuals that’ve been recurring in his recent work. In his words, “…it is a a more personal manifestation of what this particular May meant in my world.” Sounds just about right to me as the start of warm weather often leads us to wrap up or leave behind ideas + projects from the colder months to move forward into the most righteous season there is. If you’re a jerk from Southern California or Texas or something + don’t care about seasons, I hope you can just enjoy looking at this awesome art.

It’s April Fools Day but this wallpaper from one of my favorites, Matt Lyon ain’t a joke. Matt took a straightforward approach to this month’s edition: April, bright colors, newness. I like it. A lot. It might still be raining in my city but staring at this wallpaper on my desktop gives me hope for a sunnier + less soggy tomorrow. Hope it does the same for y’all.
