Jack Hudson

I have this old children’s book called “Scary Things” that I got in a bargain bin years ago. It’s essentially a 200 page list of everything the author is afraid of, with accompanying stick-figure illustrations. I was obsessed with that book for a long time. Super talented illustrator Jack Hudson recently updated his portfolio with a brief series called FEAR that he showed at a couple of galleries earlier in December. Same idea, except this time the art is really, really good.

I think the attraction is pretty obvious. It’s fascinating to learn what might be holding someone back (or pushing them on). A lot of what we’re afraid of is totally irrational (the dark) or so rational (disease, allergies) that it’s second nature. We’re not supposed to talk about our fears in public + we’re definitely not supposed to examnine them. I love this shit.
