Giuse
Let me start by saying, I looooove this guy’s work. The above piece is definitely a last-minute entry into my personal “best of 09″ competition. Giuseppe Modica, orĀ Giuse is a super talented Dutch illustrator + designer that’s done some awesome work for the skateboard industry. I’d love to see more.
Also, I apologize in advance for [...]
William Edmonds
If you look through the portfolio of british illustration William Edmonds you’re going to find some really, really simple illustrative explorations of shape, flow + character form.
Sometimes I think the easiest + most obvious work is really the most difficult + clever. Like now.
Philip Dornbierer / Yehteh
Philip Dornbierer, who more frequently goes by the moniker Yehteh, is a talented Swiss designer with a smooth + (mostly) minimal style. He describes himself as “wildness dipped in sissy sauce”. Ah, the classic duality of the artist.
Year One Desktop Wallpapers
Hey everyone! I’m really excited to announce the launch of YEAR ONE, the first of many projects to drop on HF.
What, huh? I thought it’d be great to commemorate the first year of HF by getting together with my favorite artists + creating some exclusive freebies for the people that are visiting the site. Double [...]
Levan Kakabadze
Levan Kakbadze is a young Georgian photographer that I’ve been digging on for the whole of 2009. Matter of fact, the above photo is probably my favorite of the year. The grit + desperation in some of these photographs is completely arresting.
Patrick Kyle
I can’t quite put my finger on why I love Patrick Kyle’s illustration so much but maybe it’s the sum of it’s parts – the motion of the characters in his sketches draw me back to some paintings by the Japanese Eccentrics. Mix in a distorted version of the Archie comics, some outsider art + [...]
Andy Rementer
I’ve been following Andy Rementer’s excellent + always hilarious web comic Techno Tuesday for a while now (I included one episode below the jump) + I wanted to post about some of his work. Andy’s impressively talented in a number of disciplines but something he hasn’t received much attention for are his hand-painted signs.
Sign painting [...]
Alana Celii
Recent Parsons grad Alana Celii has a pretty robust portfolio full of great medium format photography.
Joke Leonare
I’m gonna save this young Belgian artist some trouble + skip right over the first name. I’m sure she got enough of it in grade school. Hey, people called me “Dildo Haigh” in the 6th grade. I feel the pain.
Joke Leonare does a little bit of everything, but what I really love are her line [...]
Aidan Koch
Aidan Koch paints a lot of things, in a lot of ways. There’s a suite of semi-abstract works reminiscent of Japanese watercolor + Audubon sketches, some crude Russian style work (including some stick + poke tattoos on her Flickr) + a heap of pretty weird + cryptic comic strips.
